A few months ago, I spent some time doing volunteer work in Kenya through the volunteer agency International Volunteer HQ. I stayed with a Kenyan family and volunteered at an orphanage, Internally Displaced Persons camps, and with the Masai (warrior tribes in Kenya). It was an extremely moving experience. Read more.

    Meringue Coffee Cake with Cinnamon and Chocolate

    The March 2011 Daring Baker’s Challenge was hosted by Ria of Ria’s Collection and Jamie of Life’s a Feast.  Ria and Jamie challenged the Daring Bakers to bake a yeasted meringue coffee cake.

    Right from the start this challenge looked yummy.  Yeasted coffee cakes taste a lot like fresh bread with a filling.  Give me fresh bread, butter, and a wedge of brie, and I could happily exist off that, so I knew the biggest challenge would be not eating the whole cake myself.
