A few months ago, I spent some time doing volunteer work in Kenya through the volunteer agency International Volunteer HQ. I stayed with a Kenyan family and volunteered at an orphanage, Internally Displaced Persons camps, and with the Masai (warrior tribes in Kenya). It was an extremely moving experience. Read more.

    I’m submitting this poppyseed cake for October’s Kitchen BootcampJen at My Kitchen Addiction runs challenges every month based around skills every cook should have, and I’ve been meaning to participate.  This month’s challenge is making pastry dough, so I’ve adapted the Sweet Pastry Dough from The Art of German Cooking for the cake.
