A few months ago, I spent some time doing volunteer work in Kenya through the volunteer agency International Volunteer HQ. I stayed with a Kenyan family and volunteered at an orphanage, Internally Displaced Persons camps, and with the Masai (warrior tribes in Kenya). It was an extremely moving experience. Read more.

    The February 2011 Daring Bakers’ challenge was hosted by Mallory from A Sofa in the Kitchen. She chose to challenge everyone to make Panna Cotta from a Giada De Laurentiis recipe and Nestle Florentine Cookies.

    I recently bought Ina Garten’s Barefoot Contessa At Home, and decided to make the lovely Panna Cotta with Balsamic Strawberries on p.190 for this challenge.

    I made the Florentine Cookies three ways- one with chocolate in the middle as a sandwich cookie, one with decorative chocolate on top, and the last plain.  All three were a big hit in my office.
