A few months ago, I spent some time doing volunteer work in Kenya through the volunteer agency International Volunteer HQ. I stayed with a Kenyan family and volunteered at an orphanage, Internally Displaced Persons camps, and with the Masai (warrior tribes in Kenya). It was an extremely moving experience. Read more.

    I’d been hearing about Lai Toh Heen since moving to Toronto four years ago, and shame on me for not trying it earlier given that I live close by.  That being said, when my friend Jill came to town, I knew it was the perfect opportunity.  She and I are super compatible eaters- we both love delicious food and trying new things, and we appreciate the taste, presentation, ambiance- the whole  experience.  We once almost burst into spontaneous applause when our meals arrived because the presentation was so well done.  We don’t see each other all that often since she doesn’t live in Toronto, so when we do get together we make a point of hitting the must-do restaurants.

    And Lai Toh Heen is a definite must-do, let me tell you.
